How Quantisal™ Works

The Quantisal™ collection device is widely used for oral fluid drug testing, combining unique scientific advantages with the efficiency of a simple, convenient specimen collection. With Quantisal™, samples can be collected anytime, anywhere. No restrooms are needed, gender issues are eliminated and the possibility of tampering and adulteration are significantly reduced because the specimen collection process can be directly observed.

Quantisal™ has a unique volume adequacy indicator that ensures there is enough specimens for screening, confirmation, and repeat testing. When the tip of the Quantisal™ collection wand turns blue 1 mL (+/-10%) of oral fluid has been collected. This avoids the possibility of not enough specimens for testing or “Quantity Not Sufficient” (QNS) results.

The amount of the drugs recovered from the Quantisal™ collection device provides confidence that even low levels of drug use are detected. For most drugs, especially Marijuana (THC), the amount of drug recovered from Quantisal™ is significantly higher than in other devices.

Fast & Reliable Results

Our dependable turnaround time drives timely hiring decisions. Using the postage-paid shipping envelope will ensure your sample is received in the lab within 1-3 days and is typically tested on the day they arrive at our laboratory. Negative results are often released within 24 hours of receipt.

The sample will be initially screened then reflexed if necessary to confirmation.

What does this mean?

Initial presumptive testing will be performed by immunoassay at specified testing thresholds, and presumptive positives will be confirmed to the limit of quantitation by definitive liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)

What is an immunoassay and what is an (LC-MS/MS)

Laboratories refer to an immunoassay test as a “Presumptive” test. We use automated instruments to test for the presence of an immunological reaction between drugs and antibodies in urine or oral fluids. This signals the presence of a targeted drug in the sample. Positive samples are then “reflexed” to a confirmation process on an LC-MS/MS instrument. This is a powerful analytical technique that combines the separating power of liquid chromatography with the highly sensitive and selective mass analysis capability of triple quadrupole mass spectrometry providing a highly specific result that will confirm the presence, or absence, of the drug compound identified in the screen test.

What drugs will be tested?

Methamphetamine is a powerful, highly addictive stimulant that affects the central nervous system. It takes the form of a white, odorless, bitter-tasting crystalline powder that easily dissolves in water or alcohol. Methamphetamine has been classified by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration as a Schedule II stimulant, which makes it legally available only through a nonrefillable prescription. Medically it may be indicated for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and as a short-term component of weight-loss treatments, but these uses are limited and it is rarely prescribed; also, the prescribed doses are far lower than those typically misused.

How Urine Tests Work

Urine testing is the most common screening method and detects recent use, typically in the previous one to three days. It is suitable for all testing reasons – from pre-employment to random to post-accident – and can be performed for a wide range of illicit and prescription drugs.

Today, urine remains the most commonly used drug specimen because of its familiarity, its cost to test, and its detection of a wide range of drugs for inclusion on test panels.

A significant problem with urine testing is that it is vulnerable to “cheating“ like:
  • Adulteration (placing something in urine so drugs will not be detected)
  • Dilution (drinking a lot of water over a short period of time)
  • Substitution (using fluid other than the donor’s own urine)
Especially in unmonitored collection situations.

The Pros and Cons of Urine Drug Testing

Pros:

  • Inexpensive. Dependable. Longevity in industry
  • Detects recent drug use (previous 4-72 hours)
  • Applicable for a variety of testing reasons including – pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, follow-up and return-to-duty screening

Cons:

  • Easily manipulated (adulterate, dilute, substitute).
  • Same-sex staff required to observe the collection and cannot be used to determine the dose or severity of impairment

Single Dip Tests

Testing for one drug at a time, the Single Urine Dip Test is very easy to use.

This fast and accurate device is an economical way of detecting the presence of a particular drug:

Instant (POC) Devices

Point-of-care testing (POCT) can provide rapid actionable results and test for a wide range of drugs. Truetox’s certified toxicology laboratory provides mass spectrometry confirmation for non-negative rapid test drug screens. Mass spectrometry confirmation results are typically available within 48-72 hours after the specimen is received in the laboratory.
